Vacation, here we come 2007-05-08 / 8:59 a.m. As if things weren't bad enough, we've had a few rough days. Our pediatrician called on Friday morning to discuss the test results from Bg2's blood work. I was totally expecting her to tell me that Bg2 is anemic - like her sister was, and that was contributing to the fact that she is only 16 pounds at one year. But no, she had other news for us. Her white blood cell count was extremely low. Her neutrophils count was supposed to be at least 40% and it was 9%, and her lymphacytes wer too high (didn't get a number on that one). She said that it could be that she was trying to fight off something on the day her blood was drawn, but it still should not have been that low. She wants us to come back in and have it retested when we get back from CO. I, of course - as is my way, lost it and started panicking. Sometimes, the internet is not your friend. It scares you and does not like to sugar coat anything. No offense internet, but you know it's true. By Friday evening, Bg2 had a fever and I was in a total panick - thinking, "if her blood count is low and she can't fight off illness, what's going to happen?" As the weekend went on, Saturday - Fever, Sunday - Fever - I was panicking. Especially by Sunday when it was at a steady 102 degrees for most of the day. I called and left messages for our pediatrician and was one step away from taking her into the emergency room. Dan talked me down and said to wait until Monday morning so we could try to get into our own doctor. Late Sunday night, her fever broke, so I waited. Monday morning, when I went to get Bg2 out of her crib, she was covered in spots! No fever, just head to toe spots. When will it end? We got a call back from the doctor's office and had an appointmet to take her in at 2:00. An hour before the apt., she fell on a toy and gave herself a nice black eye. I swear people must think I beat my children. Anyways, basically, Bg2 has Roseola, which is extremely common in kids her age and is pretty harmless once the fever breaks. She isn't contageous anymore, which is good since we are getting on a plane tomorrow. I asked if it could have led to her blood test results the week before, and unfortunately, it doesn't have any connection. So we are still worried about her blood count, but are trying to keep things in perspective. We leave for Colorado tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited. I am so ready to run away from here. I just need a vacation. I got most of the girls things ready yesterday and today I will focus on Dan and my stuff. I have also had to be thinking about Mother's Day cards/presents and the day after tomorrow is Dan and my birthday. It totally doesn't feel like my birthday. I probably say that every year, but this year there has just been so much stuff going on that I don't even know what day it is sometimes. Dan hasn't really been his usual birthday hog, so I haven't been having the constant reminder or count down to the big day. Plus, with all our financial issues and taking this trip, I don't expect a birthday present from Dan or the girls. He probably won't even get me a card, knowing him. Oh well, what are you going to do? I already received two very sweet birthday cards from some dear friends, so that made me feel very good. My friends are always so good to me. Plus, Beth told me we would celebrate with them when we get back, so that will be nice. There has been no mention of anything from my family, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. My dad and stepmom will take us out to dinner, so that will be nice. My stepmom is high on my praise list right now. She called yesterday to tell me that she picked up another carseat (they already have one), a pack 'n play, and diapers. So I don't have to worry about checking the two heavy items or making room to pack diapers. If you have ever traveled with small children, you know what a relief that is to not have to worry about. I am extrememly grateful to her. I better get the laundry done so I can get packing. Hope you all have a great day and stay cool. Did I mention that I hate the heat we are having? I do. AND, they are having thunderstorms in CO - my FAVORITE weather. I can't wait! K
