Chatty Kathy today!

2007-06-03 / 9:42 a.m.

Today has been a very nice morning so far. Dan had to be at church for all three services this morning, and myself and the girls were going to meet him there for the first service. When Bg2 woke up with a fever, that put the kabosh on that. I can't take her into the nursery with a fever - even if I am pretty sure it is just from teething. Why? Because I am a considerate parent who doesn't bring sick kids to share germs with healthy kids. I wish there were more people like me!

Anyways, since we weren't going, I had lots of time to get things done around here. Our kitchen was a PIT! I got that cleaned while the girls ate their breakfast. A couple loads of laundry came next, followed by some general picking up. The house looks much better and I am sure Dan will be happy when he gets home this afternoon.

Yesterday we spent a few hours in the morning doing some yardwork. We got both yards mowed, the front weeded and edged, I deadheaded the roses and cut back some plants that were too overgrown and looking neglected. The best part was that I cleaned up and edged the plants growing along our driveway. We have a pretty narrow and long driveway, and when plants start to grow over what precious backing up space we have (we back our cars in the garage), then something has to be done. It looks SO much better! The bummer is that I jammed my thumb in the process and now have a purple fingernail. No pain no gain, right? So I watered really well this morning, and in a couple of days, our yard should be looking nice and pretty. We didn't spend quite as much time in the back, but I can work on that when the girls are out playing. I like getting the front done so people don't think I'm lazy.

After some showers and throwing things in a bag, we headed to a friend's house for a 3 year old's birthday and pool party. It was fun and Bg1 had a blast in the pool with her daddy. Unfortunately, he got a tiny bit sunburned and is being a Huge baby about the whole thing. The girls crashed when we got home and we all rested before going out to grab some dinner. Don't be jealous, but we went to McDonald's - I know, my man knows how to treat me right. We never buy Bg1 a happy meal because a)hello? do you know my cheap husband? and b)she's never really been that interested or cared too much about it. Well, right now they have Shrek toys and she wanted one, so we got her one. It was the Shrek doll and he has a button that you push and he sais three different things...one of them, being a belch! Charming! Of course, that's her favorite. This is what will persuade me not to buy happy meals again.

So, I'm sure you are all dying to know how things have played out with Martha. I talked to her Thursday and we both basically apologized and acted like nothing ever happened. I didn't see the point in rehashing everything and I'm past caring at the moment. She asked when we could come over and see her, so we went on Friday evening. We went out to dinner with everyone, which we never do, and it was fine. My brother even paid for our dinner - which he Never does! It was kind of nice to go out because it avoided a lot of the awkwardness that might have been if we just stayed home and stared at each other. So, whatever, it's fine. I'll try to be better about going over there and I think I am going to Try to let things roll off of me and not call her on things I know she is lying about. It doesn't make a difference anyways, so why cause a fight. Except that in saying that, I get frustrated because I don't want her to think I believe her lies, but.... Kim....let it go! Ok!

Dan ordered me a chip for my cell phone that will essentially turn it into an ipod, so I am excited about that. I'm going to download a ton of songs before my trip to NC, so I can have it on the plane. I think I am going to try to get another season of Gilmore Girls and call those two things my Mother's Day present. For my birthday present, I think I am either going to get a food processor or a new set of pots and pans. Depending on which one is a better deal. We've been shopping for sales and narrowing it down. Or maybe a nice watch, I don't know.

Did I mention that in 16 days, I will be with one of my best friends, her sister (another one of my favorite people) and a beautiful new baby girl? I couldn't be more excited. Oh yeah, and her husband - not that I'm leaving him out, because he is wonderful too, but oh - to see my girls!

We are having our family portait taken today. One of my aunt's gave us a gift certificate for Christmas to have portraits taken, on the condition that she gets a 5x7 of the family. I've been waiting until I am skinny, but since that is not happening anytime soon, and my aunt keeps sending us threatening emails about wanting her picture, we decided to get it done. It should be interesting. This will be the first picture of the four of us. I hope it turns out well and is not too painful of a process today. I'll let you know how it turns out. And now, I go iron little girl dresses that are a pain in the ass to iron!
