Not a terrible day with Martha

2007-06-15 / 7:37 a.m.

Me: Today we are going to meet our friends at the bookstore and then go have lunch with them. I need you to be a good girl while we are there.
Bg1: Do I have to hold your hand?
Me: Not if you listen and obey.
Bg1: Hmm.. I'll have to think about it Mommy.

That kid cracks me up! She is constantly coming up with things that sound way too old for her little 3 year old body. The other day, we took dinner over to my friend, Jenn, who just had a baby. Jenn's 2 year old was crying because we weren't going to stay and had to leave. Bg1, with her hot pink sunglasses on and her poodle purse over her wrist, and in her best mommy voice puts one hand on the little girl's shoulder, leans down and said, "Don't cry, it's okay. I'll come back and play with you another day."

I spent the day with Martha yesterday, and it wasn't terrible. Her friend, Lynette, that she has known since Kindergarten, took her to her dr. apt. in the morning, and the girls and I met them for lunch. We had a nice lunch. I haven't seen Lynette for a while, so it was nice to catch up a bit. From there, Lynette had to get going, so my mom went with me. She had told me previously that she wanted to buy something for the girls. I needed to get a couple things for my trip so we headed to Target. We walked around for a long time. It was nice. The girls did well, and we had time to look at all the clothes. I bought 4 things for my trip (I already returned 1 of them) and my mom got some things for the girls. She bought Bg2 a baby doll. Bg1 has not been very forthcoming with the sharing of her babies, so now Bg2 has her very own. She Loves it. She holds it and pats the back, gives it kisses and says, "nigh - nigh" (aka night night). Very sweet. She loves that it has eyes that open and close. She couldn't be happier, which in turn makes my mom feel good. She bought Bg1 a game called Pretty Pretty Princess (Cinderella Special Edition), where she gets to put on pieces of jewelry to look like a princess. We played it last night and Dan won! I wish I had my camera. He had a necklace, bracelet, ring, clip-on earings and a crown. He was the prettiest princess I have ever seen! What a good dad! Bg1 also got an adorable bathing suit. After our shopping trip, I dropped my mom off and headed home. The girls fell asleep on the way, so it was a quiet ride in traffic.

I have been working on my list of things to get done before I leave. I am a little stressed because it is not just getting myself ready, it is getting the house ready for Dan's parents to be here. I feel like I have to have it all perfect and things perfectly layed out for them. I have been making lists and labeling things, in hopes of making it easier on them. Now, I know they have raised two children, and are perfectly capable, and I know the girls will be in good hands, I just getted anxious. I am trying to plan dinners for the time I am gone. Dan is supposed to completely take over when he gets home from work each day. That means dinner, dishes, baths and bedtime. I don't want him mom doing everything. So I am planning meals that I know he can fix and/or just pull out of the freezer. I keep asking myself why I am stressing. They are 3 capable adults, but I feel like it is a nice thing to do. Not that I am expecting any form of thanks, but they are helping us out, so why not make it easier on them.

TIAKTYWTK: I can NOT sleep with socks on and my feet have to be out from all covers - no matter how cold it is.
