Happy Halloween 2007-10-31 / 8:57 a.m. I meant to post yesterday, but honestly, it was one of those days. I ran out of steam before I got the chance. It was one of those days where you need a day to recover from your weekend. We left Thurs. evening and drove to Dan's parents. We stayed the night and left the next morning for the rest of our drive to northern CA. The girls did pretty well in the car for that long - 6 hours! We borrowed a portable DVD player from a friend, so that helped break up the time. We spent Friday evening visiting with our friends and letting the girls get acquanted. Our friends, Chris and Jessica, have twin girls who are two weeks younger than Bg2. It was crazy to see all four of them together. Saturday morning, we went to a pumpking patch - see flickr. It was so nice. It was cool and crisp outside and the air was actually breathable! It was nice to be outside after being couped up for several days. We headed back for lunch and naps and then headed over to see some friends from college. We had dinner with them and their 3 kids - 7 kids running around = Crazy! It was fun though. Sunday we made a really big breakfast and all staying in our jammies until nap time. I LOVE days like that. That afternoon, we went to a park where the girls had fun climbing and playing. The little ones learned how to go down the slide by themselves. I'll have to post some of those later. We fed the kids, put them down for the night and ordered Indian food for dinner. I have only had it one other time, in NC with Jeanne Marie, and it was super yummy. We need to investigate and find an Indian food restaurant near us. The food, some wine, and good friends made for a really fun evening. Monday morning, we woke up and started packing up. Chris and Jess had to get to work that day, so we left when they left. Plus, we had to drive all the way home and it was supposed to take 8 hours. I say "supposed to" because we ran into a slight problem. We did pretty well in the morning, no traffic or anything, stopped at Dan's parents for a late lunch, and then got back on the road for the last few hours until we were home. Well, we hit some traffic. We heard on the radio that a car had caught fire and they closed the freeway. Then the brush caught fire and they had to bring in helicopters to drop water on it. Basically, we were stuck on the freeway, with the car turned off for about 2 hours. It was like a parking lot. The problem was there were no exits to get off the freeway, and we were overlooking the ocean, as in - we were kind of on a cliff - meaning there was no where to go! I just kept praying that Bg1 wouldn't have to go to the bathroom. There were a lot of people going to the side of the road and peeing in the bushes, but I Really didn't want to have to make her do that. About 2.5 hours later, we inched past the accident and were back on our way. So we didn't make it home until 10:00 - not quite what we had planned. We basically moved the girls to their beds, unloaded the car - dropping everything in the kitchen and living room and went to bed. So yesterday was the day for unpacking and putting everything away. We had a great weekend, minus the drive home. The best part about being stuck on the freeway was when Dan started getting REally grouchy. Here's our conversation. Priceless! So today is Halloween! Bg1 is super excited to get to put on her costume and go trick-or-treating with her friends. For the past several years, we have gone to my friend Cyndi's house and have dinner and then take the kids trick-or-treating around their neighborhood. The best was about 2 years ago, when Bg1 was 1 - she would bang on the door and hold out her bucket and say, "candy!" If they poor unsuspecting people knelt down, she would help herself to the bowl of candy. At 1, you can get away with things like that. I'm curious to see how Bg2 does this year. Last year she was still in the stroller. I'll be sure to post pictures tomorrow of how cute the girls looked. Bg1 is not being nice to her sister at the moment, so I called her over to me to talk to her. This was what she said. me: What's going on? How come you arent' being very nice this morning. Honestly, I have days like that, so who am I to tell her she can't feel that way? I basically told her she could be grouchy but couldn't treat other people badly because of it. Well, I'm off the get my third cup of coffee. Don't let the ghosts and gobblins get you! K
