slightly worse than expected 2008-04-08 / 3:34 p.m. So today was the day to take Bg1 back to the dentist to check her teeth. I was already preparing myself for some bad news. The front tooth that she knocked loose, has started to turn gray. I knew that was a bad sign, but somehow managed to talk myself into believing that it could still turn out to be okay. Boy was I wrong. The tooth is not going to be okay and it is going to be taken out next week. He doesn't want us fooling around with it because if it has an infection in it, it could spread to the other two damaged teeth - that, after 3 weeks, are still loose! He was a little concerned that they hadn't tightened up yet, but said that the thumb sucking could have something to do with it. Now, I completely trust this man! I've known him since I was 12, so I in no way think he is trying to get money out of a procedure that doesn't need to be done. It was just no the news I was hoping to get today. I was actually quite a bit shocked by it all. So, next Wed. we will be going in to have her tooth pulled out. After 3 or 4 weeks of healing and watching the other two teeth, we will start the process of putting in a (hopefully only one)false tooth. I am trying not to be too upset about this. Thankfully, it's her baby tooth and in 3 or so years, her permanent will come in. So no permanent damage - but 3 years is a long time to go without a tooth - hence the prosthetic. My second concern is the money. I can already hear Dan telling me that we are not going to pay to have it done, since she doesn't technically need a front tooth. There are other reasons to have it put in, aside from cosmetic reasons. I asked the receptionist if she could give me an idea of how much this was going to cost. She said that they were going to give me a 20% discount for being a friend of the family and they would submit it to the insurance company to find out. I know insurance will cover most of the tooth extraction, but I'm not so sure about the prosthetic. She is going to try to submit the claim and get back to me tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that between insurance and the 20% discount, this won't end up costing us a fortune or an argument between me and Dan. In other news, we are going camping this weekend. I'm looking forward to some time away. My aunt and uncle are already there and we are meeting them for the weekend. I have not done anything to start getting ready. Lists will be made, laundry will be done and food will be bought. It's going to be cold, so I need to figure out some warm clothes for the girls. Saturday we spent all day in the yard. I am still sore from all the work we did. We filled 4 trashcans and dumped 2 wheelbarrow loads full of dirt behind the garage. It's crazy how much we did. It is starting to look really good. Exciting news - Bg2 went poo-poo on the potty the other day! I still don't think she is ready for potty training, but if she asks to sit on the potty, I'm going to put her on it. It is mostly because she sees her sister going potty and wants to do any and everything her sister does. I'll take it. That's it for me! K
